Getting Started in Gymnastics
By Julia Cantone // usolympicteam.com // April 15, 2004
Getting Started in Gymnastics The best way to get started in gymnastics is to contact a local gymnastics club and sign up for an introductory class. Also check out the Web sites for regional and state programs near you. Gymnasts can then participate in invitational competitions with their clubs. Young gymnasts of all skill levels can also participate in summer camps cross the country.
Joining USA Gymnastics
You and your team must belong to USA Gymnastics to compete in any USAG sanctioned event, including women's and men's rhythmic, trampoline & tumbling, group gymnastics, and sports acrobatics competitions. Clubs can register their athletes online and athletes can apply for individual memberships by downloading an application from the USAG Web site.
How to become an Olympian
Every potential Olympian must win a place on the National Team through a selection process. This process is supervised by USA Gymnastics, the umbrella organization composed of 22 Constituent Organizations which are the back-bone of gymnastics in the U.S., and helps participants advance from the grassroots to the Olympic level.
