2007 World Gymnastic Championships About to Get Underway

The 2007 World Gymnastics Championships get underway this weekend in Stuttgart, Germany, with the U.S. women set to debut on Sunday, Sept. 2. The men will see their first action on Tuesday, Sept. 4.
The seven members of the women’s team are: Ivana Hong of Blue Springs, Mo.; Shawn Johnson of West Des Moines, Iowa; Nastia Liukin of Parker, Texas; Samantha Peszek of Indianapolis, Ind.; Alicia Sacramone of Winchester, Mass.; Bridget Sloan of Pittsboro, Ind.; and Shayla Worley of Orlando, Fla.
The six members of the men’s team are: Guillermo Alvarez of Denver; Alexander Artemev of Morrison, Colo.; David Durante of Garwood, N.J.; Sean Golden, of Camden, N.J.; Jonathan Horton of Houston; and Kevin Tan of Fremont, Calif.
The 2007 World Championships is the qualifying event for the 2008 Olympic Games. The top 12 teams advance to compete in Beijing. The men’s and women’s teams were named following the conclusion of 2007 Visa Championships in San Jose, Calif.
