Cincinnati Gymnastics Academy participating in Tyson Fitness Challenge

Cincinnati Gymnastics Academy, one of the country’s leading gymnastics clubs, is joining the effort to help kids get more physically active by participating in this summer’s Tyson Fitness Challenge, an eight-session children’s fitness program. In addition, Cincinnati Gymnastics Academy plans to raise money for the Children’s Miracle Network through the Tyson Fitness Challenge. (May 14) Approximately 450 of the nation’s top women’s Level 10 artistic gymnasts will compete at the 2007 Women’s Junior Olympic National Championships, May 19-20, in Mason, Ohio. The event features competition in regional team, all-around and individual events. To qualify for the Women’s Junior Olympic National Championships, gymnasts competed in state and regional championships. The Women’s Junior Olympic National Championships are split into eight age divisions. The top four all-around finishers for each age division qualify for the Junior Olympic National Team. (May 10) Four U.S. gymnasts are scheduled to compete in two upcoming men’s artistic World Cup competitions this month: the World Cup in Ghent, Belgium, May 12-13; and the World Stars in Moscow, Russia, May 26-27. Athletes participating in the World Cup in Ghent, Belgium are Cay Strother (Jasper, Texas) and Jamie Henderson (Crosby, Texas). Those competing in the World Stars competition are Justin Spring (Burke, Va.) and Tim McNeill (Falls Church, Va.). (May 9) USA Gymnastics announced the 2007 class of inductees for the USA Gymnastics Hall of Fame: Olympians Kevin Davis (Tyrone, Ga.), Dr. Gene Whelan (West Richland, Wash.), and Valerie Zimring-Schneiderman (Ridgefield, Conn.); men’s artistic coach Sadao Hamada (Stanford, Calif.); rhythmic coach Irina Vdovets (Chicago, Ill.); two-time double mini-trampoline team world champion Karl Heger (Rockford, Ill.); and two-time double mini-trampoline world champion Leigh Hennessy (Van Nuys, Calif.). Dr. Joseph C. Schabacker is the 2007 Lifetime Achievement recipient in recognition of his contributions to acrobatic gymnastics. For more information, log on to www.usa-gymnastics.org.
